Can anyone suggest how to do this?
I've got loads of precious negatives that I'd like to put onto DVD.
I'm concerned that having it done through Kodak or somewhere will be horrendously expensive.

This is something I would also love to find out about as I too have loads of negatives. I have been wanting to do some research, but keep forgetting, thanks for the reminder.
There is a scanner called "Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED" Price tag from $979.00. they say that this can scan your negatives onto CD. Nikon recommends having as much free disk space as possible when running Nikon Scan.
Hmmm, not too sure I want to spend that amount of money.

Found it at Amazon for £160 + free delivery. Some reviews on the page too WT. I suppose it all depends on how many negatives you have if it's worth it or not.
You could always go into business with it![]()
I also found this on amazon, Veho VFS-001 Negative & Slide Scanner (5.0MP, 35mm)
for £69.49 also delivered free in the UK
Hi Webtalk
I have done a lot of Semi Professional photography, mainly weddings, and have ended up with a lot of Slides and Negatives. Not to mention the many photos that I have accumulated over the years. To cover my archiving needs I bought the following scanner - Epson Perfection 1660 - which scans all the usual formats including Slides and Negatives. It's been a while since I bought it I am sure that Epson have a current model capable of doing the same if not better. See the following link for a review and more information on this particular scanner. You never know it may still be available. Unfortunately when I bought my scanner it was still quite expensive however I have noticed that prices have dropped somewhat since then.
For your information this scanner in use is fairly straight forward to make copies of slides or negatives. I have done many but warn you Dust and Dirt are the enemy which is much more obvious on the end result because of the small format.
There are many other makes of scanner that you might consider but make sure they actually do slides and negatives. I would normally buy Canon products but the Epson scanner I bought happened to be the best for my needs at the time, so I bought it. However, I am sure that Canon have something comparable these days to consider. Take a look at a few reviews before making a decision. If you choose to buy one of the "dedicated" models for 35mm slides and negatives then these tend to be more expensive and of no use to scan photographs. Look for the general all round type models and get your money's worth.
It may sound like an expensive exercise, "buying" a new scanner, but by the time you have paid some agency to do the scanning you could quite easily have bought your own scanner for the price. Not only that you'll have for it for all your future scanning needs.

Let me know if you want any further information and I will do what I can to help.
Good luck with your efforts.
